Stem Vex Robotics Competition

On Friday last, May 6th, the pupils in the senior classroom attended the Vex Robotic Competition in O'Connor Park , Tullamore. Not only did they represent the school so well in their participation and behaviour ,  they brought home a trophy for their excellent work! They won joint first place in the Skills competition with Tubber NS.

Well done to Mr. Brennan, Mary and all the 4th,5th and 6th class pupils on this great achievement! Here's to more silverware next year.

The following is taken from the Offaly County Council Facebook page.

Official Offaly GAA Bord na Móna OConnor Park was the venue for our

Offaly Stem VEX Robotics Competition held last Friday May 6th.

Rain most definitely didn't stop play and with students from 63 schools in attendance

there was plenty to keep them entertained in between their battles on the robotics field.

We had Microsoft Dream Space who engaged students about microbits, programming

-using minecraft, StarDome Planetarium Dome which let students experience

STEM Lessons from Space, and and a gaming area including virtual reality for

students.  Our colleagues in Offaly Fire & Rescue Service were also on hand to to

showcase the wonderful work they do.

This event was in collaboration with Munster Technological University,

Offaly Local Development Company, Local Enterprise Office Offaly and the

Government of Ireland

Our winners on the day represented their schools with pride and we say well done

and thank you to all who came along.  See separate posts on our winners across

Lá Fhéile Pádraig 2022 - junior room

St Patrick's Day  was celebrated on March 16th in St Cronan's this year!

First of all, we had a "Wear Green Day" which got us in the spirit of our national feast day.

After small break, we all gathered in the school yard and each class performed some songs and dances. We finished up with rousing renditions of Ireland's Call and Amhrán na bhFiann.

Here are some photos and videos of the day. Here is part 1- middle room, senior room and baking pictures to follow in part 2.

Volleyball- Regional finals

On Tuesday March 8th, the senior room (4th,5th and 6th Classes) took part in the regional finals of a volleyball competition in Ballinasloe. We contested all 3 competitions on the day, Girls 4v4, Boys 4v4 and Mixed 4v4. Each team played 4 games and played very well. They were unlucky to miss out on the knock-out stages.

Well done to Mr. Brennan and all the pupils for representing the school so well.

Pancake Tuesday 2022

On Tuesday March 2nd, the whole school enjoyed delicious pancakes. Thanks especially to Mary, who slaved over a hot crepe maker all day to keep us fed! Every classroom had their turn and we could choose from nutella, lemon and sugar or strawberry sauce!! Yum,Yum!!

Food Dudes February 2022

As a follow-on to our Food Dudes programme in 2019/2020, Lusmagh N.S. took part in "Food Dudes Week" from February 14th- 18th 2022.The Food Dudes programme is a healthy eating initiative organised by Bord Bia. It encourages children to eat more fruit and vegetables. The Department of Health recommends that children and adults eat 5-7 portions of fruit and vegetables each day.

Each day from Monday to Thursday, we received a portion of fruit and vegetables to try out in school. We had apple slices, mandarin oranges, blueberries, cucumber, carrot batons and  pepper slices. Unfortunately, due to Storm Eunice our driver couldn't deliver our fruit and vegetables on Friday but the response from the children was super on the other 4 days.

Most children ate all their portions and some even tried fruit and vegetables that they hadn't liked before! Well done everyone! Junior infants, senior infants and 1st class also received lovely new Food Dude lunchboxes so they can bring their own fruit and vegetables in from home from now on.

We look forward to having the healthiest children in County Offaly!
